Our band parent and family volunteers are integral to the SHS Bands' success. We welcome any volunteers who are able to support us in the areas below. If you are interested in volunteering for the upcoming 2025 Marching Band Season, please complete the form here. With so many areas of need you can choose what interest you the most. Please take a look and sign up for at least one area.
During the season, we use TimeToSignUp to manage specific volunteer slots and meal donation activities. All available volunteer activities can be accessed at: https://www.timetosignup.com/shsband/
Jump in and get involved. We have activities available for all families!
The Marching Band "Pit" consist of all the front ensemble equipment, drums, drum major stands and props. We have 3 trailers of equipment to load, unload, setup, and then reload for each competition. The students in this section are amazing and as adults volunteers, we follow their lead.
The Pit Crew assists the students by moving equipment from the trailers to the field and back to the trailers. The Pit Crew also assists with loading the trailers and strapping the equipment. Almost all the equipment is on wheels, so you just have to push. Very rarely are you carrying something. If you have younger children in grades 4-8th bring them along, they can help out! A bonus to Pit Crew is that you watch right on the sidelines while our band performs.
The Pit Crew assists at games and competitions. Game performances may be at half time or after the game. For Competitions, the Pit Crew helps load the trailers before we leave the school. At the competitions, we unload the trailers and push the equipment to staging areas and then to the field, then back to trailers to load up and strap down. We will then head back to the stadium to sit and watch all the other bands and the awards ceremony.
As a Pit volunteer, you get access to games and competitions for free.
Each event takes about 20 volunteers to make things run smoothly.

Concessions requires 30+ volunteers for varsity games and ~15 volunteers for JV/9th Grade Games. Proceeds from concessions support all SHS Band activities, so all families are encouraged to volunteer throughout the year. Kids are welcome to volunteer as well, as long as they have adult supervision.
We have a lot of positions for you to pick from. You don't need experience for any of the positions. We have parents that have been doing this for years, and they will show you the ropes. If you volunteer in concessions, we feed you and you get free entry to the game. The positions are broken down by halves. You may sign up to work the first half of the game or the second half of the game, or both.
The available concessions positions are described in this document: https://docs.google.com/.../1ww02bOi2ZACbsvPhqkHC.../edit...
Unable to work concessions or love to bake? You can donate bake good for us to sell at games. These sell really well!!

The Band Boosters provides meals for Marching Band Students before football games and competitions. Parents can help by donating requested food items listed in the band meal sign ups. Most donations are below $10. There are also many options that are shelf stable and could be sent in with students.
In addition, volunteers are needed to help set-up, serve, and breakdown. Many hands make light work. If you are available, we would love to have you come work with us feeding the kids. It is actually pretty enjoyable. We get to know the kids. They seem to like that we provide them food. Last year we started incorporating some silliness on part of the adults where we dressed up for holidays.

We need families willing to use their personal vehicles to tow the 2 band owned trailers. We also need a third enclosed trailer.
Competitions - We will need 2 families to use their personal vehicle to pull the 2 band owned trailers to and from competitions. These trailers are double axle and require a break box system to be in the vehicle you use to tow these trailers. You will travel to the competitions and help load and unload the trailers, as well as help move the equipment to the staging area. Once the trailer is loaded after the performance, you are welcome to head home, or stay and watch the other bands shows and the awards ceremony. Entry for Trailer drivers to competitions is free.
We will also need one more vehicle and trailer to use for competitions it needs to be an enclosed trailer to move electronic equipment. drums, and props. If you are able to use your personal vehicle and trailer for any of the competitions please state that in your sign up and let us know asap. We need to know this sooner than later so we have time to rent one if needed.
Trailer moving-We will need for people to move the 2 band owned trailers from the school to stadium and back. This is necessary due to practice location. Please pay close attention to the time windows that trailers need to be moved. This is very important.

Showcase requires a tremendous amount of volunteers to support a successful show. All Marching Band families are required to have at least one family member volunteer. Volunteers assist with band check in, pit driving, parking, concessions, judge runners, bleacher traffic, ticket booth, and shout out/raffle booth. Donations are also needed for the volunteer cafe and director's tent. In addition, the band needs volunteers willing to allow us to borrow trailers, haulers (ATVs, Tractors, Gators), tents, and tables.
