Mr. Austin Nicholas
Austin Nicholas has served as a professional music educator since 2007. Currently, he is the Director of Bands at Stafford High School. Outside of Stafford County Public Schools, he has previously served as band director at schools within the Hanover County Public Schools & Newport News City Schools divisions. Additionally, he has regularly served as an instructor at the JMU Summer Band Camps since 2007.
Mr. Nicholas earned a Bachelor of Music degree from James Madison’s School of Music in 2007, with an emphasis in instrumental music education and applied bass trombone. He has performance experience in a wide range of styles, performing for audiences in the United States, Wales, England & Ireland in various ensembles including symphony orchestras, wind bands, brass bands, jazz ensembles, marching bands & a funk/reggae band. Mr. Nicholas continues to perform regularly as his schedule allows, most recently in the trombone section for the Cherry Blossom Brass Band. He maintains membership in the National Association for Music Education, the Virginia Music Educators Association & Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
